For those of you that may be interested in the fujifilm competition please see below.

Please note that the final date for submissions to the 2009 Fujifilm Distinctions Awards is 1st September 2009.

That means you've just two weeks to be in with a chance of scooping the cash prizes on offer. The overall winner will receive £1,000. The second placed photographer will receive £500 and third place will receive £250.

A shortlist of Merit winners will be chosen by our judging panel of photographic industry experts. Each Merit winner will be presented with a certificate and will then be invited to submit a print for final judging.

There is an open brief, so whether your image is from a personal project or from a commission, as long as it was shot on Fujifilm Professional film, you can enter it into the competition. Furthermore, the Awards are open to everyone, worldwide: professionals, enthusiasts, students – everyone.

Don't forget that you can now buy your Fujifilm Professional film stock direct from Fujifilm via www.fujilab.co.uk/catalog - the new Fujifilm Online Shop. The shop stocks all formats, in any quantity, all with long expiry dates, and stored under refrigerated conditions.

Visit www.fujilab.co.uk/catalog now to see our full range.

Hey - that's ok. It's good to credit work! :D

I'd love to add you to my LookBook as well - if that's ok. This section allows me to showcase creative individuals and their work. Send me your favourite snap (difficult to choose I'm sure) to katy@creativeboom.co.uk and also add a little blurb about yourself and what you do... Cheers, Katy

The Photographer's Collective is a new initiative for North Staffordshire, formed to support, and provide resources for, photographers. It also aims to raise the profile of photographic activity in the area.
A group of seven amateur and professional photographers met early in 2009 to talk about setting up a permanent gallery for photographic work. We had received a generous offer of permanent exhibition space from Burslem School of Art (and a small support budget) on the proviso that we manage the exhibition space ourselves.
This was an important first step to setting up a wider group to encourage the development of photography in North Staffs. The founder members were clear that they wanted to develop something more ambitious and effective than a photographic or camera club —something that would meet the needs of professional, as well as amateur photographers.
A first exhibition gave the membership of the Collective an opportunity to try out the exhibition space, and to meet people who might want to become more actively involved in the group. Our second, an Open exhibition, has attracted entries from more than 30 photographers, who provided more than 60 images. We intend that this is the first of an annual series of Opens and which in future years will be developed into an annual festival of photography, in partnership with other venues and organisations.
Aside from that we are not entirely clear about how the Collective will develop — there are lots of ideas, but not too much certainty!
We would like to widen the membership of the collective, however we need to be clear how to do that — there will remain a need for a core group to manage the exhibition space and apply for funding to support or activities.
Current members of the collective are — Darren Washington, Eleanor Babb, Heidi Crabbe, John Webbe, Lisa Watson, Maffi (of Culturing Stuff) Penny Vincent and Tony Jones. Contact any of the members via blurb, Culturing Stuff or Facebook.

I think I already know a few people here! But for those of you who I don't, I look forward to meeting or reading your comments - oh yes and is it me or are generally in the north staffs places and things to do turning into a ghost town? Interesting to photograph a bit like one of those sc-fi films where Keanu Reeves, gets out of his car and looks around the place and nobodies there? Anyway that's my philosophical point for starters..... Roger
